Whitewater Park Wave #2
Starting in 2021 multiple groups collected community signatures and proposed engineering plans to construct a standing river surfing wave in the Truckee River Whitewater park. The construction for the surf wave feature was completed in June 2026. From the moment the water flowed over the structure and under the Arlington bridge the community of whitewater enthusiast spoke up, united then created the Nevada Whitewater Association. With the objective to keep our rivers clean, wave features safe and functioning, and advancing whitewater sports for years to come.
Our goal is to have a functioning surf wave in the Truckee River by summer 2027.
Whitewater Park Wave #3 and #4
In 2003 the community of Kayakers in Reno created the Whitewater park after 10years of advocacy and planning. This whitewater park became a world class river systems that attracted families and athletes to swim and paddle the 11 man made wave features in downtown Reno, NV. Over 20 years the Truckee River has had its low and high flows (200-15000 CFS) that changed the functionality of the waves and safety of the swimming holes in the park. The Nevada Whitewater Association has brought multiple groups of river enthusiast together to clean and maintain the safety and functionality of the 11 waves.
Our goal is to remove the excessive sediment that has built up over the years along with constructing and removing structures that effect wave function, maintenance and flooding risk.
